...The movie "The Blind Side" is a great example of perseverance. It represents quotation one by Michael Jordan, about overcoming obstacles. 'The Blind Side" talks about the true story of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy who take in a homeless teenage African-American, Michael "Big Mike" Oher. Michael has no idea who his father is and his mother is a drug addict. Two big obstacles for him to overcome. Michael has had little formal education and few skills to help him learn. Leigh Anne soon takes charge however, as is her nature, ensuring that the young man has every opportunity to succeed. When he expresses an interest in football, she goes all out to help him, including giving the coach a few ideas on how best to use Michael's skills. They not only provide him with a loving home, but hire a tutor to help him improve his grades to the point where he would qualify for an NCAA Division I athletic scholarship. Michael Oher was the first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft. His hard work paid off, as he overcame his obstacles and persevered through. He had the drive,tenacity and mental toughness inside him all along, he just needed someone to really push him. Leigh Anne really pushed Michael to not give up, as she saw his athletic gifts. Perseverance is also about having the right people around you to push you to your full potential, as Leigh Anne did with Michael. This also relates to "The Pursuit of Happyness" as Chris Gardner and Michael Oher both share similar qualities, such as their drive to not give up and their mental toughness. Chris had to live on the streets while at the same time battling with many others for a stock broker job, and the odds were really stacked against him. Michael had almost no previous education and he overcame major educational odds to get to where he is right now. This also relates to Tom Dempsey's short fiction story, as his dream was to play in the NFL but he had to overcome huge obstacles such as being born with a stub of a right arm and no right foot. Michael Oher also has many obstacles to overcome before making it to the NFL, such as little to no education and a lack of a home. Him and Tom Dempsey both persevered and never gave up, and eventually they reached their goals...
